High School Roleplay Prompts
Clubs, festivals, rivalries and rooftop lunches: 20 starters.

Twenty original high school roleplay prompts: clubs, festivals, rivalries, rooftop lunches and small mysteries. Each has a hook and a first message ready to paste. Every character in these scenarios is a student or school staff member; stories stay wholesome and safe-for-work.
School stories are great for roleplay because they come with built-in structure: a timetable, a cast of classmates, events on the calendar, and the feeling that everything matters enormously.
Using the school calendar
Before you start, pick a point in the school year. It gives the story a natural shape:
- First day: new faces, first impressions, getting lost.
- Festival season: class projects, stalls, plays, late nights preparing.
- Exams: pressure, study groups, rivalries at their peak.
- Last week before graduation: endings, confessions, promises.
Clubs and activities
1. The club with one member. You're the only member of the gardening club. The student council will turn the greenhouse into a storage room unless you recruit someone by Friday.
I tape the "JOIN THE GARDENING CLUB" poster to the noticeboard for the third time. Someone behind me reads it out loud. "'Free tomatoes. No experience needed.' Are the tomatoes any good?"
2. The drama club's lead. The lead actor in the school play has dropped out two days before opening night. You're the understudy. You've never acted.
"You know the lines, right?" The director grips my shoulders. "Tell me you know the lines."
3. The cooking club disaster. Your cooking club partner has never cooked anything. The competition is tomorrow.
Smoke drifts out of the oven. "Okay. That's fine. Cookies are supposed to be… black? Sometimes?"
4. The newspaper scoop. You write for the school paper. You've just found out something that could get the principal in trouble.
I lay the photocopied receipts on the newspaper club table. "Before anyone says anything, I double-checked. Twice."
Mysteries
5. The anonymous notes. Someone has been leaving notes in your shoe locker. Each one is a riddle about something that hasn't happened yet.
The new note says: "Tomorrow, the fire alarm will save you." I show it to my desk mate. "Okay. This one's actually creepy."
6. The music room ghost. Every evening after club hours, someone plays the piano in the locked music room.
The piano stops mid-note when I open the door. The room is empty. "…Hello? I just want to know what that song's called."
7. The missing trophy. The school's championship trophy has vanished the day before the alumni ceremony. Everyone suspects the rival school.
I crouch beside the empty display case. "The lock wasn't broken. Whoever took it had a key."
8. The transfer student's secret. A new student arrived mid-term with no records, perfect grades, and no idea how to use a vending machine.
I watch the new student stare at the vending machine like it's an ancient puzzle. "You press the button. With the number. Where did you transfer from?"
Friendship and rivalry
9. The study rival. You and the top student in the class have been forced into a study group. Neither of you wants to be there.
She slams her textbook down across from mine. "We'll split the chapters. You take the boring half."
10. The class rep election. You were nominated for class representative as a joke. You've decided to actually run.
I stand at the front of the classroom with my speech. "I know who nominated me. And I know they think this is funny. Vote for me anyway."
11. The sports day relay. Your class needs one more runner for the relay. The fastest person in school refuses to run.
"You did a hundred metres in eleven seconds in PE." I follow them down the corridor. "Why won't you run for us?"
12. The rooftop regular. You've been eating lunch on the roof alone for a year. Today someone else is already there.
They look up from their bento. "This is my spot." "It's been my spot for a year." "Then where have you been sitting?"
Festivals and events
13. The haunted house. Your class is running a haunted house for the culture festival. Your partner is terrified of everything.
"You jumped at a cardboard ghost." "It looked at me!" "It doesn't have eyes."
14. The festival fireworks. The fireworks start in ten minutes. You promised to meet someone, and you can't find them in the crowd.
Someone grabs my sleeve in the crowd. "Found you. Come on. I know a spot where nobody else goes."
15. The school trip. On the class trip, you and one other student got separated from the group in an unfamiliar city.
We watch the tour bus pull away. "So. Do you speak the language?" "I know how to say 'thank you' and 'cat'."
16. The snow day. Snow has closed the trains. A handful of students are stuck at school overnight.
The teacher hands out blankets in the gym. "Nobody leave this room." I lean over to the student next to me. "So we're leaving this room, right?"
Endings and beginnings
17. The first day. It's your first day at a new school. The only person who'll talk to you is the one everyone else avoids.
They slide into the seat next to me. "You're new. Free advice: don't eat the curry on Wednesdays."
18. The graduation letter. On the last day, you find an unsigned letter in your desk that says only: "I wish I'd talked to you sooner."
I hold up the letter in front of the class. "Whoever wrote this. You've got until the ceremony."
19. The broken promise. In first year, you promised a friend you'd both get into the same university. Only one of you did.
I find them on the swings behind the school. "You're not answering my messages." "Congratulations. Really."
20. The time capsule. Your class buried a time capsule in first year. The key to it is missing.
I hold up the rusted padlock. "We all signed it. We all put something in. So who has the key?"
Tips for school roleplay
- Lean into the small stakes. In school, a seating chart or a lost notebook can feel enormous. That's the charm.
- Use classmates as supporting cast. A gossipy friend or a strict teacher adds life to scenes.
- Keep it age-appropriate. School romance on Minkplay stays sweet and safe-for-work: crushes, confessions and holding hands at the festival.
For the grown-up version, see the college roleplay prompts. For a school with spells instead of chemistry labs, try the magic academy prompts. Classic school arcs include rivals to lovers and childhood friends to lovers, and the tsundere archetype is practically a school-story staple.
