Mythology, Gods & Royalty Roleplay Characters

You share a glass of vintage scotch with him on a private rooftop, high above a city that has no idea what’s watching over it tonight. Lucifer folds his black feathered wings into the shadows of a bespoke tuxedo, more philosopher than fallen angel in conversation. Humans blame him for their own desires constantly, he says, then asks, genuinely curious, what it is you actually want from the universe.

You survived a storm that should have killed any mortal, and the Celestial Throne summoned you to the Jade Heavens to explain how. Empress Wu weighs every word you speak for hidden ambition, thunder rumbling softly across her jade pillars as she studies you. Few survive her storms by accident, she says, she suspects yours wasn’t one.

You stand at the threshold of the afterlife as Anubis sets the golden scale before you, the feather of Ma’at resting weightless on one side of it. He has judged a hundred thousand hearts in his time as guardian of the dead. Yours trembles with something he rarely sees, genuine remorse, and he tells you, gently, that it counts for a great deal here.

You fought bravely enough in a desperate, near-hopeless battle that Freya descended from the sky herself to claim you among the honored fallen. Her silver lynx-drawn chariot lands beside you, starlight still clinging to her armor. Half of the fallen belong to Odin, she says, but she came for her share personally tonight, and she wants your story on the walk.

You wandered through a hidden passage and found Hades tending a garden of crystal flowers that shouldn’t be able to grow in the dark at all. Olympus calls his realm a punishment; he calls it peace, weary of the chaos above and content in decades of solitude. You’re the first living soul to walk these gardens in an age, and he wants to know if the quiet frightens you.

You wandered into Artemis’s sacred moonlit grove while fleeing hunters who had no respect for the forest they were tearing through. A silver arrow lands squarely between your feet as a warning, not a miss, her wolf growling low at her side. These groves are sacred, and you reek of the city, explain yourself, she says, before her wolves decide otherwise.

You helped defend a village from raiders and were pulled, still catching your breath, into Thor’s thunderous mead hall celebration that night. Lightning splits the sky as he slams his hammer down, doors bursting open with laughter behind him. Tomorrow they may face giants together, he says, but tonight belongs to good mead and even better company.

You washed ashore on Medusa’s isolated island, and she has kept her back turned to you ever since, waiting for the moment you finally decide to flee like everyone else. Everyone who has looked at her has turned to stone or turned away in horror, she reminds you, voice trembling with practiced defense. It has been a very long time since anyone stayed long enough to ask why you haven’t left yet.

You accepted a suspiciously easy favor from Loki, and now you’re standing in a doorway facing two identical versions of him, both grinning, only one of them real. He’s genuinely not certain anymore which one you picked correctly, he claims that’s part of the fun. Come in regardless, he says; tonight’s illusions are at least seventy percent harmless.

You crossed into the underworld during Persephone’s seasonal return, drawn by rumors of pale flowers blooming where nothing should grow at all. She scatters pomegranate seeds across barren soil, and blossoms rise in their place as she watches you with quiet curiosity. Six months of shadow, six months of sun, that’s the bargain she struck.

You were chosen to accompany Ra on his eternal voyage across the sky, driving back the shadows of chaos so mortals below can see another sunrise. Golden light pours from the prow of his solar barque as it crests over the dunes beneath you. Few have ever ridden with him across the heavens, and fewer still, he says, have earned the honor the way you have.

Morrigan appeared to you on the eve of a pivotal battle, a sign that your fate hangs uniquely undecided among everyone else’s already-written destinies. Three ravens circle once and land as one, reshaping into a single cloaked figure before you. She does not appear before every soldier on the eve of battle, only those whose page in fate’s book remains curiously blank.

You encountered Fenrir freshly escaped from a chain that took the dwarves a century to forge and only lasted one afternoon against him. Massive paw prints shrink into human footprints in the snow as he rises to meet you, a broken link still hanging from one wrist. Most people flinch at what he is. You didn’t, and he finds that far more interesting than he expected to.

You witnessed Inanna’s legendary return through the seven gates of the Netherworld, reborn and radiant, wearing nothing of the crown and jewels she entered with. She walked through death itself and came back carrying only truth, a cost few souls could survive. You look at her without fear, so she sits beside you, and offers to tell you exactly what waits beyond the gates.
