Slice of Life Roleplay Prompts
Cozy everyday moments with small stakes and big feelings.
By the Minkplay team · Updated
Twenty original slice of life roleplay prompts: small stakes, everyday moments and the quiet feelings that make ordinary days matter. Each has a hook and a first message ready to paste.
Slice of life is roleplay at its most relaxing. No villains, no world-ending threats, no prophecy. Just two characters, a place, and a day. The magic is in the details: the smell of rain, a shared umbrella, a recipe that went wrong.
What makes slice of life work
- Small, specific stakes. Will the cake rise? Will they say yes to the picnic? Will the cat come home?
- Texture. Weather, food, routines, objects. These are the story.
- Gentle conflict. A disagreement, a misunderstanding, a deadline, a nervous first.
- Time to breathe. Slow scenes are the point, not a problem.
Home and neighbours
1. The moving day. You've just moved into a new flat. Your neighbour has appeared with a plant and too many questions.
I open the door to find a stranger holding a potted fern. "Welcome to the building! This is Maurice. He needs light. Are you a morning person?"
2. The power cut. The whole building's lost power on a stormy night. Everyone's gathered in the stairwell with candles.
I sit down on the step next to my neighbour from 4B. "I've lived here two years and never seen your face without a phone in front of it."
3. The shared garden. The building's shared garden has been neglected for years. You and one neighbour decide to fix it.
I hold up a rusty trowel. "Okay. We have one trowel, a bag of mystery seeds, and absolutely no idea what we're doing."
4. The lost cat. A cat has been visiting your flat every evening. Today, you found a "lost cat" poster with its picture.
I knock on the door at the address on the poster, cat in my arms. "I think this is yours. He's been eating my tuna for a month."
Food and cooking
5. The recipe from home. You're trying to recreate a dish from your childhood. Your roommate is determined to help, despite having never cooked.
"It's supposed to be orange." I stare into the pot. "Why is it grey?"
6. The bakery at dawn. You work the 4am shift at a small bakery. A regular comes in every morning, always buys one croissant, and never says a word.
Today, the silent customer slides a folded note across the counter with the coins. "Thank you for always saving me the corner one."
7. The farmers' market. You have a stall selling jam at the weekend market. The stall next to yours sells very competitive jam.
The new stallholder sets their jars out, then glances at mine. "Strawberry-basil? Bold." "Thank you." "Mine's better."
8. The cooking class. You signed up for a cooking class alone. You've been paired with the only other person who can't cook.
Flour everywhere. The instructor stares at us. "How did you set the salad on fire?"
Hobbies and small adventures
9. The bookshop club. You've joined a book club where you're the only member under seventy.
Mrs. Abernathy taps the novel. "We'd like to hear your thoughts on the romance subplot, dear. Be honest. Doris thinks it's rubbish."
10. The night sky. You've started stargazing from your rooftop. A neighbour joins you with their own telescope.
They set up beside me without asking. "Saturn's out tonight. Have you seen the rings yet?" "I didn't know you could."
11. The rainy day. A rainy Sunday, a long-planned picnic cancelled. You decide to have it indoors instead.
I spread the picnic blanket on the living room floor. "Ground rules. No umbrellas. No complaining. And you have to pretend that lamp is the sun."
12. The puzzle. A 5,000-piece jigsaw puzzle has taken over your shared living room. It's become a household obsession.
I hold up a piece at 2am. "Edge. EDGE. I found an edge."
Work and routine
13. The quiet library. You're a librarian. The same person comes in every day, reads the same book, and never checks it out.
I set the book on the returns trolley as they walk in. "It's always here when you arrive. You could just borrow it."
14. The night bus. You take the same night bus home every evening. So does the driver's favourite passenger: you.
The driver waves me on without checking my ticket. "Rough day? You've got that look."
15. The flower stall. You sell flowers at a train station. One commuter buys a single sunflower every Monday.
I have it wrapped before they reach the stall. "Sunflower. Who's it for, if you don't mind me asking?"
16. The coworking café. You work from the same café table every day. So does a stranger, who has started leaving notes under your cup.
Today's note says: "Your laptop sticker. Is that a frog or a potato?" I write back. "Both."
Seasons and small celebrations
17. The first snow. It's the first snow of winter. Your quiet neighbour knocks on your door holding a sled.
"I know we've never talked." They hold up the sled. "But the hill behind the park is perfect right now, and I can't go alone. It's a rule."
18. The birthday no one remembered. It's your birthday. Nobody remembered, except one coworker you barely know.
A cupcake with a single candle appears on my desk. "HR has everyone's birthday on file. I'm nosy."
19. The summer festival. A small-town summer festival. You've been roped into running the ring-toss stall with a stranger.
They hand me a bag of rings. "Rule one: never let the mayor win. He gets insufferable."
20. The last day of summer. Tomorrow the holidays end. Tonight, you and an old friend sit on the dock one last time.
I dip my feet in the lake. "Same time next year?" "Same time every year."
Slice of life tips
- Notice the senses. Smells, textures and sounds carry these stories.
- Let nothing happen sometimes. A quiet scene of two people reading is a perfectly good scene.
- Small moments are big moments. A first name, a shared umbrella, a remembered birthday.
