Werewolf Roleplay Prompts
First moons, pack politics and uneasy truces.
By the Minkplay team · Updated
Twenty original werewolf roleplay prompts: first moons, pack politics, hunters, uneasy truces and the struggle between the human and the wolf. Each has a hook and a first message ready to paste. All packs, towns and characters here are invented.
Werewolf stories are about duality: the person you are by day and the thing you become under the moon. In roleplay that makes for great drama, whether you're the one turning, the one who knows the secret, or the one hunting.
Decide your lore
Werewolf rules vary wildly across stories. Pick yours:
- How do you become one? A bite, a curse, a bloodline, a choice?
- Is the change controllable? Only on full moons? At will? Triggered by emotion?
- Who are you in wolf form? Fully yourself, partly yourself, or gone?
- What's the weakness? Silver? Wolfsbane? A name spoken aloud?
- Packs? Loners, families, rigid hierarchies?
Keep it consistent once chosen. Broken rules break tension.
First moons
1. The bite. You were bitten on a hike three weeks ago. The full moon is tonight. The stranger who saved you says you have hours.
She checks the sky through my kitchen window. "Moonrise is at 8:42. You're going to want to be somewhere without furniture."
2. The roommate's secret. Your roommate disappears every full moon and comes home covered in mud and scratches. Tonight you followed them.
I find them in the clearing, mid-change, eyes already gold. "Oh. Okay. Okay, that's… a lot. Should I go?"
3. The first change. You've changed for the first time. You're human again, in the woods, at dawn, with no memory of the night.
A stranger tosses me a coat from the edge of the trees. "Morning. Don't panic. You didn't hurt anyone. I made sure."
4. The family secret. On your eighteenth birthday, your grandmother sits you down for "the talk." It isn't the one you expected.
She pushes an old silver locket across the table. "Everyone in our family changes at eighteen. Your mother didn't want you to know. I think that was a mistake."
Pack politics
5. The new wolf. You've been taken in by a pack. The alpha's second has made it very clear you're not welcome.
He blocks the doorway of the pack house. "You smell like the city. You won't last a month."
6. The challenge. By pack law, anyone can challenge the alpha. Tonight, someone has challenged your best friend.
I grip my friend's shoulder at the edge of the circle. "You don't have to fight." "Yes, I do. That's the whole point of being alpha."
7. The outcast. You were exiled from your pack for a crime you didn't commit. Now they need you back.
My old pack's beta stands on my doorstep, hat in hand. "The alpha's dying. And she's asking for you."
8. The rival packs. Two packs have been at war for a century. You're from one. The person you've fallen for is from the other.
We meet at the river that marks the border. "If they find us here—" "They won't. Nobody comes to the river at night."
Hunters
9. The hunter's daughter. You were raised to hunt werewolves. The one you've just cornered is your best friend from school.
I lower the silver blade an inch. "Tell me it's not you. Please tell me it's not you."
10. The hunter who switched sides. A famous werewolf hunter has walked into your pack's territory, unarmed, asking for sanctuary.
He raises his hands. "My order's coming for all of you. I know because I was supposed to lead them."
11. The silver bullet. Someone in town is making silver bullets. The pack has asked you, the only human they trust, to find out who.
I set the spent casing on the gunsmith's counter. "I'm not here to cause trouble. I just need to know who's been buying silver."
12. The truce. Hunters and werewolves have agreed to a one-night truce to fight something worse than either.
The hunter and I stand back to back in the burning barn. "After tonight, I'm going to shoot you." "After tonight, you're welcome to try."
Small towns and secrets
13. The town that knows. You've moved to a small town where everyone locks their doors on full moons, and nobody will say why.
I catch the diner owner hanging wolfsbane over the door. "That's a decorative choice." "That's a survival choice. Stay inside tonight."
14. The vet. You're the new vet in a remote town. Your most frequent patient is a very large "dog" that only comes in after full moons.
The owner sets the injured animal on my table. It looks up at me with very human eyes. "Please don't ask questions."
15. The missing hiker. Hikers keep going missing near the old forest. The local pack swears it isn't them.
The alpha meets me at the trailhead. "It's not one of ours. But it smells like one of us. And that's what scares me."
16. The lone wolf. A lone wolf has moved into the cabin next to yours. They're quiet, polite, and very careful about the moon calendar.
I hold up the calendar they dropped, every full moon circled in red. "You dropped this. Are you… a keen astronomer?"
Beyond the moon
17. The cure. A scientist claims to have a cure for lycanthropy. Not every werewolf wants it.
"It works. I've tested it." The scientist holds up the vial. "The question is whether you want to stop being what you are."
18. The wolf god. An ancient wolf spirit has appeared to your pack, demanding a champion.
The great silver wolf's voice fills the clearing. "One of you will run for the pack on the long night. Choose."
19. The pup. You've found a werewolf child alone in the woods, terrified of their first change.
I kneel slowly, keeping my voice soft. "Hey. I know it hurts. I'm not going anywhere. Breathe with me."
20. The last full moon. A curse means this is the last full moon you'll ever change on. After tonight, you'll be fully human, or fully wolf. You don't know which.
I sit with you on the hilltop as the moon rises. "Whatever happens, I'll be here in the morning. Either way."
Werewolf story tips
- Make the change cost something. Pain, lost time, fear of who you'll hurt.
- Use the moon as a clock. Every story gets a natural deadline.
- Explore both selves. What does the wolf want that the human won't admit?
For other creatures of the night, see the vampire roleplay prompts and the horror prompts. Packs are a classic found family, and cross-pack romance is pure forbidden love.
